This is what I purchased from the clearance section:

Gersey No Satellites

All India Radio Fall

Gotye Like Drawing Blood

Augie March Moo, You Bloody Choir (advance)

Killing Joke Killing Joke (2003)

Two That Petrol Emotion LPs

= $16.

The last four I already have downloaded but wanted hard copies of. The Gersey ensures I have found each of their albums in clearance bins in LA-area record stores. (Thanks, Los Angeles!)

It’s probably a good thing I don’t make it to Amoeba too often. I’d be in big trouble otherwise.

honestly!

Favorite moment of Church tour adventures: Running into my friend Stephen (of Second Motion Records) and Marty Willson-Piper (of the Church) at Amoeba on Sunset while we were all record-shopping. As Stephen and I threw recs at each other (we both had CDs hooked around each arm), we were both lamenting the change in our music consumption habits, specifically the fact that I have to be almost immediately captured by a band to give it my time nowadays - lamentable, because there are definitely groups that require repeated listens to appreciate.

So Stephen asks me what I think of Grizzly Bear and I say, “They’re alright.” To which Mr. Willson-Piper hikes his eyebrows at me and replies, “See, how interesting - *YOU* hear five minutes and aren’t impressed. *I* listen to five minutes and think it’s bloody brilliant.” I explain the convo Stephen and I had just been having about music in general. Him: “That’s a problem! That’s no good. Go lock yourself in a dark room and do it proper! Honestly!”

In short, I was swatted on the wrist for being a bad music fan. In Amoeba Records, by Marty Willson-Piper, whose record collection has its own MySpace page. According to sources the hotel room was “littered with the bodies of black clad warriors, suggesting Mr. Carradine had been the victim of a ninja attack”. Ninja attacks are not an uncommon problem in Thailand, but the sheer number of dead ninja were said to be “staggering”. Chief Inspector Phuk Pan had this to say, “It was as if the ninja were taken to a great height, and dropped. Limbs were broken and bodies were twisted with great violence. It made me vomit to see the mess.”

Mr. Carradine was found at the foot of a canopy bed sitting in the lotus position favored by Buddhist Shaolin monks when police were finally able to break down the door being blocked by piles of dead ninja. An unearthly glow was said to bathe his body in warm light, illuminating his faint and knowing smile. Upon closer inspection he was found not to be breathing and a small shard of metal was found inbedded in the palm of his right hand. While cause of death will not be known for several days it is believed that the metal shard was actually the broken tip of a poison tipped spear, likely coated in tetrateratoxin, a paralyzing agent and favorite of local crime syndicates, specifically that of The Black Foot.

In his left hand he clutched the famed Amulet of Ravahasu, an ancient artifact said to grant the possessor the power to raise, and command, an army of the dead. Among his personal items was the contact information for Dr. Stephen Wallace, a British nationalist living in Bangkok, and reputed expert on the Amulet of Ravahasu. It is surmised that the victim was ambushed before he was able to make contact with Dr. Wallace.

Investigation is on going.
”

- Awesome comment by TylerDFC at Pajiba’s post on Carradine’s death, and probably how we all would prefer to THINK Mr. Carradine went out: http://www.pajiba.com/trade_news/david-carradine-1936-2009.php (via orlyeh)

BrightestYoungThings: It’s Over Johnny: The (Alicia) Key To The New eMusic

BrightestYoungThings: It’s Over Johnny: The (Alicia) Key To The New eMusic: Lets get one thing straight – I love The Clash. I love The Sex Pistols. I love Leonard Cohen and I love 90% of the work by The Strokes and Springsteen. These are the artist’s eMusic CEO and Chairman Danny Stein trotted out to brace current subscribers on the upcoming changes to their existing plans. (I thought it odd that he failed to mention Alicia Keys and the Dixie Chicks, despite their inevitable appearance on the highlights graphic for the “Major Catalog Expansion.”) Through some crafty nudging of the timeframes available, the company has glossed over the fact that most ardent music-lovers will now be paying almost a 400% increase per track starting this summer for the implied joy of scooping up some of these artists finest tracks, which most of you have already decided whether or not to purchase quite some time ago.

Surviving the World - Lesson 334 - Music Critics

Surviving the World - Lesson 334 - Music Critics

tsparks:

What’s up, Journal?

Everybody here is so into their personal drama. It’s pretty weird, I guess. There’s no room for a fat guy in all that stuff, though. Oh no, the fat guy can’t be involved in any romantic love triangles; he’d just drag everything down, right? It’d be like, an isosceles love triangle if you put fatty on one end. Speaking of, why have I even gained weight here? Between nebulous monsters and the Others, I run literally eight miles a day and there is nothing to eat here but fish and fruit.
If you haven’t read the graphic novel, please remedy that.
